Project Management jobs

Appreciate any advice from people in the know! I am thinking of leaving my current company (large multi national technology firm) for another job as I just fancy a change and may have the opportunity to take a redundancy package. I have over 15 years experience in the tech industry in a variety of roles - sales, closing big deals, product management for a couple of years, props strategy and a very short time in project management (think a few months) however I have had some ‘project management’ experience in other roles ie transferable skills. The issue I have is that most of my experience is in sales, but I would rather do project management as I enjoy that and think I’d be good at it. However I don’t have a huge amount of experience and none of the qualifications (prince 2 etc). What are the chances of me being successful in applying for PM roles? I know there is a shortage so would my experience in tech industry and transferable skills count in my favour?

Your current salary and your salary expectations will likely have a lot to do with it. I did Prince2 but was unwilling to accept the kind of pay cut I would have had to take to move into a projects role.

Yep…I think that will be the main issue, currently in around £55k (would probably be willing to go to £50k if there was a lot of opportunities for progression but would need to be WFH for that

I recruit PMs and we wouldn't consider anyone with 'only a few months experience' regardless of salary or state of the job market.

I suggest you move into product management instead since you have more experience there and your sales experience is more relevant. As a product manager you could move into a product owner role and potentially get agile experience that way, which would potentially open up project manager roles in future if you proved capable.

Thanks @HundredMilesAnHour , interestingly that’s what I was trying to do in my current company, sideways move into product management to get out of sales…I will consider that

Have you looked at law firms ... getting project managers in is big opportunities for those who can flex their experience to do legal project management
