Amazon Warehouse - DS not been paid and no one will help

My DS is a student and took a job at an Amazon warehouse doing some night shifts for extra cash. This was back in August. He worked a couple of weeks but struggled with aspects of it and left. He's owed about £500 in pay. He's tried and tried to get them to pay him. He's been promised on about 5 different occasions that the money will be in his account within 48 hours and today has been told he'll just need to wait.

I've tweeted Amazon in desperation and their response is for him to contact them through the Help channel on the website.

I just wondered if anyone works for Amazon or has worked for them and had any ideas? He will, of course, try contacting them through the website but any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Small claims court? I'm not sure they cover wages though and will cost about £70 to put a claim in.

@LakeWindermere thanks for this suggestion, I'll look into that.

Who has he been dealing with? hR, payroll, the manager he worked for?
He is best off asking for the name of who is dealing with it and continuing to chase it up. If it hasn't already gone to HR then he needs to contact them.
Unless you have three million followers a tweet from mum isn't likely to make much difference . Chasing the right people up to find out the progress is more effective

Jellyshoeshurtmyfeet · 19/12/2022 15:01

@Calmdown14 he has been dealing with HR but can never get to speak to the same person. Originally he was told he'd been paid then they've said several times within 48 hours. He's also been down to the warehouse a few times to speak to the manager but just gets told it will be sorted.
Ha ha, he'd be mortified if he knew that his mum had tweeted. I never use twitter and probably have 5 followers but it's just so frustrating!

Working at Amazon here, HR. We are very cautious with paying people, if we are unsure if someone worked a shift or not, we always asume he did, we work pro associate. Better paid than not paid. It really depends wether he is directly employed by Amazon or through an agency. If he is with an agency he needs to contact agency shift supervisor or manager. If is with Amazon he needs to go to local HR and get thrm to raise a case for him, also to make his line manager aware of the issue so he could get updated. One more thing to check is that he has the corect bank details on system for the money transfer. It will get sorted, don't worry.

Blenheimprincess · 19/12/2022 15:06

He needs to put the facts in writing, via email.

e.g. I worked x days. I am owed x amount. I spoke to X and Y on these days and was promised payment. There is no disputing that I am owed this sum. Please contact me within xxx days (January I suggest) I will be considering further action. Then when he gets a reply he needs to understand why it hasn't been signed off, who needs to sign it and when the next payroll or payment run is.

It won't be deliberate, it'll be the crap machinations of a large organisation rammed with work because of Christmas. It's a good sign that he's been promised it several times as that suggests that it's undisputed but that some crap admin error means it remains unpaid. He needs to write. And then forward his original email again and say "please could I have a response?" and then "please could I have the name of the person to escalate this to?"

Good luck.

Missanimosity · 19/12/2022 15:07

Also, if he was told he was paid several times he needs to wait, this won't come in straight away but in the next payrol.

Blenheimprincess · 19/12/2022 15:07

And agree with PP, if he was via an agency it's down to them, absolutely.

Jellyshoeshurtmyfeet · 19/12/2022 19:28

He was employed directly. He was told originally that he'd been paid but then they said it was the wrong bank details. I think if someone had said it will take 4 weeks or 6 weeks he would be patient but when they keep saying it will be within 48 hours it's frustrating. Thank you all for the advice. @Missanimosity thanks, that's good to hear. @Blenheimprincess an email is a good idea, I'll suggest this.

if they’ve paid using incorrect bank account details they may be waiting for it to bounce back to theirs. In which case keep on top of all conversations and keep records. It will go back to them but they might not be hot on tracking down returned payments and whose pay it rightfully is quickly. The 48 hour promises sound like whoever said that didn’t know it had gone to the wrong account. 48 hours is optimistic.

GellerYeller · 19/12/2022 20:41

So sorry- just spotted this has been going on for months- in which case it absolutely should have been returned to Amazon’s account some time back. I will butt out now! Hope it’s sorted fast x

Jellyshoeshurtmyfeet · 19/12/2022 22:27

@GellerYeller thank you. Good point though that could well have been the hold up initially!
