I’ve been offered a job answering 111 calls. Has anyone done this? Is it a great job or really stressful and underpaid?

A few of my family members do.
It's not so much stressful as emotionally draining. There's a lot of counselling services available - so that should tell you what you need to know.

WMAS handlers often do 999 calls as well as 111 now.

It’s a nice job, but the demand is very high at the moment because of strep A/ Scarlet fever. Nobody has shouted at me over the wait times (yet) they’re just grateful to get through to someone.,

Are you working via an agency or direct as NHS band 3?

The pay rate works as follows outside of London for NHS band 3

basic rate (before 8pm weekdays) £11.11

evening and Saturday rate £15 (if half or more of your shift is after 8pm weekdays it’s all paid at £15 ph) so for example a 4-midnight shift or later is all paid at £15 p/h

Sunday and Bank Holiday rate £18.78 an hour.

PM me if you want to know any more.

Thank you for replying to me. I don’t know how to send a PM.

The job is with a company called Practise plus I believe and the money is less than you have said but I am in Devon so maybe they don’t pay so much here.

DON'T DO IT.

I know someone who has been off with stress so many times this year because he works for them.

They even tried to get phone equipment delivered to his home when he had covid so he could work!

They time your toilet breaks, call you when are are sick etc etc.

Would not recommend to anyone unfortunately.

That’s not my experience. Depends on your Trust I guess. I’d never be expected or allowed to work from home in a non clinical role. Agency work may be different. I wouldn’t do it that way, just keep an eye on Trac jobs and apply directly.

Practice plus are a private company to whom the 111 service is outsourced in some areas. I think that means they can choose not to pay AfC (NHS pay scale) rates, which is presumably what's happening there (as outside London, NHS pay scales are the same countrywide).

Not agency. Work for the main trust but they've been bought out again I think.

Just looked up Practice Plus 111 jobs and saw the shocking pay rates for Plymouth. Rip off.
