Any work from home recommendations?

So as the title says, does anyone have any recommendations for work from home jobs with no previous experience required?

I have been sick most of my life so didn’t get to complete school and education and every time I tried college I ended up dropping out due to health issues and being in hospital more than I was at home.

Im now in the beginning of pregnancy and as much as I don’t NEED to work as I have the needed financial support as hardly any employer would take me on with my illnesses, I have literally gotten to a point where I feel like I’m just getting nowhere in life and I feel I must do something! Anything!

The last time I worked was 2017 and it was a small part time job where I got attacked and it just wasn’t worth it, I had no protection and above all I had to try and do that while juggling my Ill health and it was not working out.

I have done general searches for any work from home jobs and the vast majority require experience in some area. If not then they will somehow expect you to come in to work which is hardly work from home.

I decided to take on studying again through Open University but that is studying and isn’t a job so as much as it’s something it’s not quite what I need. Having gaps in work makes it harder to even get an job in the first place but I’m getting to the point where I don’t know what to do and at the same time don’t want to take on something big and full time knowing I will need to take some maternity leave in a few months anyway.

Anyone have any ideas? I wanted to do many things but at this stage I cannot choose what I want as it’s about what’s available to me.

The only advice that I could suggest would be to see if there is an organisation that supports and advises people with your health condition(s) and can possibly help - some do have careers and employment advisors or can signpost you to people with the right kind of experience. Because I won't bullshit you - you are obviously very capable of figuring this out for yourself - but I can't imagine anyone (legitmate) employing someone to work from home who has no qualifications or experience, no employment track record, and can't demonstrate that they could safely do so; and on top of that possibly throwing childcare into the mix. I would take a long hard look at any "employer" who thought that sounded like a great resume! They would either have to be rather dodgy, or the employment quite possibly on the dodgier side of life (up to you, but you may not be desperate enough for those "occupations") - or both.

Working from home sounds great, but it takes a specific type of person to make it work well, and it isn't easy to do for someone who isn't skilled or experienced. Believe I know - I work from home (disabled) and rarely go to the office, but during the pandemic when nobody was in the office I had a number of new starters without skills and experience and over half of them could not learn the job / slacked / couldn't hack the isolation - it is far from ideal if you don't know what you are doing to start off with!

Hmm okay thanks for that.

There is nobody that will have information on my health conditions because they are rare however it’s not to say I’m totally unqualified and unskilled. I have certs in Business Admin, skills in writing, IT and similar and most if not all of my experience and other skills are around Animals and Animal care but I didn’t bring that up as it isn’t relevant in terms of working from home and really and truthfully they ask for up to date experience, not any experience you have ever had in life.

I know if I was able to go out there and work a normal shift each week then I am fully capable of finding a job with no issues as lack of experience is something that I can gain again and many jobs don’t even require experience or skills depending on how low I’m willing to go (one of my last jobs was with Pizza Hut delivery and any training needed was provided) however my issue is not having the ability to do a regular working hour and possibly not being able to keep myself well enough to keep at it.

Sorry. You said you hadn't completed school / college etc so that reads as no qualifications. You said your last part- time job was 2017 and didn't provide any suggestion that you had skills and experience to offer. I was trying to help bad on what you said, but if your condition is so rare that there's nobody at all who can help or advise then you need to give us something to work on. You've given all the reasons why it's impossible to find employment that suits you.

There are voluntary wfh roles with charities. Do that to get some experience and then apply for jobs. You'll have experience and someone to give you a reference.

That's what I did after I'd been out of work for a very long time, although it was pre pandemic so I worked in an office as a volunteer.

I now do an admin role where I wfh 4.5 days and go in one morning a week which is really nice as it's more of a social thing than work!

Tropicaliyes · 16/12/2022 20:02

@Quveas yeah I understand where your coming from but I don’t need to finish education to pick certs up. I was referring to my experience that could help with getting a wfh job, that would be none.

when I have looked at other similar posts, the things they speak about is regarding things that require previous experience in a certain field, or some of them say it’s fine without experience but you have to do a small course beforehand which is free but when I check them out it’s far from free!

My condition(s) is hard to be understood by the doctors treating them so the most I can get from getting others to understand is some sympathy which is not helping me!

@Amboseli That is actually quite helpful, I didn’t know there was voluntary wfh roles that I could use to give me experience. I’m not unfamiliar with voluntary work (again animal care but worked with Celia Hammond and in local farms) but wasn’t aware of there being remote options. I will have a look into what can be available to me and what can help in the meantime. Also doing a small amount of time in an office or wherever is not a issue to me as I can likely manage that, but trying to do longer times of the week is a issue. So I’m happy I have somewhere to look now, thanks

I did half a day a week in my volunteer office role and really enjoyed it, gave me experience and confidence and I was able to provide a reference when applying for jobs.

Have a look on charityjob.com I think, and filter for volunteer remote roles. Or of course just a Google search.

Tropicaliyes · 16/12/2022 20:25

Oh thank you for that! I will go straight there now! Since money isn’t a issue I don’t have to worry about working for free but I remember when I was younger, I was really struggling financially and couldn’t even eat but at the same time would taking on a bigger workload in volunteering than the actual employed people and I was feeling really taken advantage of as I was used like I was on call any time of the day!

Im by no means willing to go back into something like that (they refused to give me references when I was done, claiming they didn’t even know me!) but I know I’m no s bad off as that anymore and it shouldn’t hold me back now!

Oh I expected that website would all be voluntary work but it’s just like indeed or reed or similar but for charities 🤦🏽‍♀️ Lol maybe I was thinking something else.

Register with temp agencies, be flexible, say you'll take anything which is remote, and go from there.

Tropicaliyes · 17/12/2022 00:00

Temp agencies? Do you have the name of any?
