Toxic employer

In my organisation the team manager bullied out 4 permanent members of staff within 6 weeks. These people were really nice and hard working but he refused to help them and would blame them for not getting the work done in tight timescales.

There has been a restructure as the management felt the team manager was not right for the team but have said he can keep his job but will have a big pay drop as he has less staff to manage. He is unhappy and wants redundancy which they told him no.

Another colleague who is lazy and always on her phone has had changes to her job and doesn't like the fact she will have to do some work. These people have made my job very difficult over the past year trying to pass off their work to me which I have resisted as it was not even work for me but another team's work.

I don't like going into the office and it can be cliquey and people are b*tchy. I had a pay rise of 2k but want to be happy at work. There are tasks I have been given as no-one else knows how to do them as my colleague left. They are recruiting a part time person and have done the advert but have not advertised so realistically it is going to be March at the earliest I will get some form of support.

My bug bear is I know I may be questioned if some of my work is not done on time. This is due to an extra project dumped on me and there is a vacant post so we are having to cover this work. One manager moaned I had not done something correctly and that's because the project was a big task dumped on me with a ridiculous deadline when I was due to go on annual leave. Why are management not interested in sorting these problems out? Am I best to look elsewhere? I know if I left now they would be screwed as no-one will know how to do some of the tasks.

Am I best to look elsewhere? Yes you are. Start of the year is a great time to get your CV out there as new budgets and plans for the year are kicked off.

I know if I left now they would be screwed as no-one will know how to do some of the tasks. That is their problem not yours. The fact only you know some of the tasks is immaterial & false security.

It sounds like toxic bullying & ineffective management. You are very unlikely to thrive or grow & develop in this environment. Better off moving on.
