New job - fear

Does anyone get so nervous about accepting a new job, you don't do it? I have a job offer on the table and the thought of accepting it sends waves of anxiousness over me despite the fact I've always done well in jobs as I'm a worrier so I work hard and am very conscientious. At the moment, I feel paralysed by fear and it's constantly on my mind in case I can't do the job

Yes, this is me OP. I'm a few days into a new job and I want to work 20 hour days to try to get my head round it all. But family commitments mean I can't.

The thing to remember is, the person/people who offered you the job clearly has confidence in your ability to do the job. Imposter syndrome isn’t unusual before starting a new job. You don’t know what it’s like until you start. Good Luck.

Im just like how you describe. I started a new job 6 weeks ago after 14 years in last place. First 3 weeks were strange getting into a new routine. But its fine now.

Whats your alternative OP, staying I your current job forever? Be brave x

Yes, I apply and will turn down the interview. Then if I do an interview and get it I find a reason to turn it down. When I don't get it there is an element of relief.

Oh thanks for the responses, it's so reassuring there are others feeling and doing the same things.

Did you decide to take the job?

CurlyTop1980 · 13/12/2022 20:19

Yes this is me.i worked in my previous job for 9 years and then changesd Local Authority's. The first 3 days of my new job, I cried and cried in the car on the way home.

I've just left my current job after 5 years and I have a new one starting in Jan and I'm absolutely bricking it. Like you I know I'll be fine. But it's the anxiety of the unknown.....

Hi LadyLolaReuben I have just had my second interview for both jobs I have applied for. I know I need to make the jump, but I too will be bricking it if an email comes through saying I have one of the jobs.

Have faith.Ive gone for a fair few jobs in my life and never regretted the change.
My current one has been an odd time but over 35 yrs I've had loads of positive experience s and most colleagues are welcoming.
