Notice period?

I started a one year fixed term contract three months ago. It's not going very well and lots of things promised haven't materialised which has made it super hard and stressful. I'm on the verge of resigning but just want to check my facts first.

On probation during first six months. Notice period is two months. However, if you fail probation they will extend it. Fail it second time and it's one week's notice from their side. No reference to notice required from employee if they want to leave in probation period.

What notice do you think I will need to give if I leave before six month point? Would it be two months or one week?

Why is the notice period two months when you are on probation? That seems long….

This is what it says (pulled from different parts of the contract):

This is a fixed term post which will end on XX XXXXXX 2023. This contract may be terminated before then by 2 calendar months notice on either side. The reason for this contract is is to complete a short term project.

You are subject to a six month probationary period, successful completion of the probationary period is necessary before continuing employment is confirmed. Should your probationary period not be successfully completed you may be given an extended probationary period in which to prove a satisfactory level of performance. Alternatively, where satisfactory performance has not been
achieved throughout the probationary period, your contract may be terminated with one week's notice, this may be before the end of the probationary period.

I would say that is ambiguous, I would have questioned it at the time. I think you need to ask them to clarify.

DH thinks it is one week but I was unsure. It's usually been one month either side or one week either side during probabtion.

I just don't know what to do.

Organisation is great but it's been so tough. Non-existent induction and virtually no training to actually help me with my job so it has been a massive struggle. My very 'A type' supervisor has been focused on ramping up the workload and can't grasp that I am struggling because I don't actually know how to do the job yet. There is also lots of process involved which hasn't been explained properly in any depth. Lots of quick five minute conversations hasn't been sufficient. I have had other training but more 'bigger picture' 'nice to know' stuff.

Have had various discussions with manager and thought my comments about the induction and training had been understood but fast forward to my mini probation meeting last week and it was clear it wasn't. View is that I'm doing well but slow and there was lots of focus on scrutinising deadlines and how long things are taking. I felt very demoralised.

I'm so tired. I've worked well over and above my hours to try and stay on track but it's just not enough. I feel stressed, frustrated and angry. Have tried to tackle it myself with meetings and conversations but nothing has changed.

I can afford to leave with nothing to go to but would rather not. Just not sure how much long I can carry on trying to hold it all together.

So this is a training contract?

makingarunforit · 10/12/2022 16:27

No, it's a fixed term contract.

I thought this job was very similar to what I've done before but it's actually nothing like it. Very complicated system to manage process which is bespoke to this organisation.
