How would you feel receiving this rejection?

I'm gutted. Would have loved this job, and really liked the company - and though it's more junior than my last role (head of vs director) it would have really helped me round out my experience in the long run.

"Though your achievements are impressive, they didn't exactly align with what we're looking for in this particular role.
There are two main reasons as to why it would not work and they have nothing to do with your impressive skillset.

Timing: sometimes it just doesn't work out for the role you want and what we have available. It doesn't mean that you are not qualified or capable of handling the role

Experience: we feel that this role requires a person with more recent hands on experience and our concern was this would not be enough of a challenge for you"

Sounds fair.

What’s your issue with it?

Firen · 29/11/2022 20:23

Sounds quite tactful. Unfortunately we can’t always get the roles we want. I’d stay in your current role of you can and keep looking. I’ve had to send similar feedback to HR before to send out, it’s just the way it is sometimes when you have better suited candidates for the role.

They think you are overqualified and would get bored and leave is how I read it

chocolatebrownie68 · 29/11/2022 20:31

What's wrong with that feedback?

Notaligned · 29/11/2022 20:34

I don't think anything is wrong with the feedback, I'm just gutted is all.

I think that's a well-put and fair response (I've given versions of this myself!)

Sorry you weren't successful this time, sounds like you've a great job at the moment and I'm sure will have more opportunities.

chocolatebrownie68 · 30/11/2022 12:06

I know how that feels, OP. I used to have a |Scottish neighbour who used to say what's meant for you wont go by you. I think about that a lot.

user301122 · 01/12/2022 22:00

Sounds like they thought you were overqualified and most likely wouldn't stay for long if they did offer you the job. It's tough but I'd take it as positive feedback.

good96 · 05/12/2022 23:56

Things happen for a reason - they didn’t reject you because you were a poor candidate, it seems that they rejected you because you are not a fit for that particular role and you are somewhat over-qualified with your previous experience.

The perfect job will come!
