Does this job exist and what is it?

I am looking for my dream job but not sure what it is and if it even exists!

I am a qualified accountant working part time. It's a job, but I don't love it.

However, I really love anything to do with health, nutrition and fitness and would love to work in the industry. I am a runner and regular gym goer and place a priority on living healthily.

I volunteer once a week at an NHS weight loss programme - delivering a programme at a drop in centre. I love meeting people and encouraging them on their weight loss journey.

I am nearly 50, I want to work part time, would like to keep weekends reasonably work free.

Personal trainer jobs involve working most of the weekend and I am too old to take lots of classes each week, although I would be happy with 1 to 1 supporting people in the gym, for example.

Are their any jobs within the NHS, for example, that involve helping people with diet and health that doesn't require a specific degree?

The job doesn't need to be high earning and doesn't need to be school hours.

Can the weight loss centre advise ?

Train as a PT then do a GP referral course as an option. But I think jobs are hard to come by.

Dietetic assistant or OT support?

ICanHideButICantRun · 29/11/2022 14:51

What about a job within a gym, holding weight watcher type groups?

Mueslikid · 29/11/2022 14:51

Dietetic assistant, would probably be NHS band 3, or possibly Band 4.

If you want to work in the industry then train as a PT and it will open doors for you. Being a PT doesn't have to involve working at weekends.

I would also say ask at your gym about opportunities and also ask whoever supervises you with the NHS group you volunteer with.

How much do you need / want to earn?

www.healthycornwall.org.uk/

Does this sort of place exist outside Cornwall? They do work with schools, workplaces etc. might be of interest?

Unbridezilla · 29/11/2022 17:24

I know nothing about it, but would it be a viable business to train as a PT and then specialise in older people (not necessarily elderly, but also including them)

I think your usp could be that you aren't a 20yr old gym bunny and so work with clients who are 40-70? Lots of those in the upper part of the age range may be dropping down work hours or retiring and have time to fill and an interest in staying healthy, without you doing weekends. Even better if you combine your pt with yoga/pirates training, focusing on flexibility

Health improvement practitioner?

Thank you all for the suggestions. I actually have an interview for an NHS outreach health worker which I am very excited about.
