Employer made a mistake with National Insurance

Hello, wondering if anyone can help. My employer somehow mucked up the National Insurance reversal this month, so instead of my National Insurance contribution decreasing, it's actually increased. I'm waiting to hear back from them, but does anyone know if this is the kind of thing that they would correct in the next payslip, or will I have to claim back from HMRC? Thank you

National insurance is non cumulative so no, it doesn’t normally correct itself as income tax will. I think you need to wait and see what the employer proposes.

Whilst NI doesn't self correct, in the event of an overpayment the employer is required to refund the employee provided they can do so in the same tax year. If the overpayment is in a previous tax year the employer has to contact HMRC. So, in OP's case, her employer should refund the overpayment.

Thanks both. Hopefully they will correct by next month when I'm leaving!

I wouldn't leave it to chance. I would email and ask for confirmation of what is going to be done about it in the Nov 22 payrun.

Good point, I'll get onto them!
