I have recently started a new job in a small office - no more than 10 desks.
One person in the office vapes. Often there is a strong smell of what I believe to be vape - a strong liquorice / cherry smell. The smell is sporadic, sometimes it is strong, other times there is a feint smell, sometimes there is no smell. The person who vapes has a vape pen on their desk and I have seen them walk around the office with it in their hand. I assumed (potentially incorrectly) that they were vaping in the office, and I asked them nicely to stop as it was making me feel sick / ill. They were very apologetic and said of course. For approx 2 weeks there was no longer a smell of vape in the office, but after about 2 weeks it returned.
Subsequently I have been advised that I am not allowed to allege that anyone is vaping and that the explanation for the smell is possibly that the liquid is leaking from the vape bottle. My question is - it this a reasonable explanation for the smell?
Common sense suggests if a liquid was escaping a bottle, it would be consistent and would not explain sudden and sporadic strong smells.
