Casual staff Centre Parcs - Christmas

RitaSueandBobtwo · 15/11/2022 19:07

One of my DC is a student away at Uni. They worked at CentreParcs in the summer and they have emailed asking about their availability over the Christmas period. They are home for a month and would love to spend time with them if they are in, not asleep, not on phone or out catching up with school friends. I don’t want them working say Christmas day but does anyone know if casual student retail staff would receive a bonus or additional pay per hour if working during the Christmas hols please? Just before they confirm availability.

Why would they receive a bonus? I'm assuming they'll get paid what their contract says. Don't think many retailers pay a bonus

AriettyHomily · 21/11/2022 10:46

Why would they?

inthedeepshade · 21/11/2022 10:48

Why wouldn't he or she just email back and ask those questions him or herself? No need at all for you to get involved.

hugznotdrugz · 21/11/2022 10:50

They might get time and a half but nobody can actually answer it

diamondsarefornextweek · 21/11/2022 10:55

No, there wouldn't be any pay above the contractual amount unless working on bank holidays (and even this is only a maybe, it may be regular pay with a day off in lieu).

sheepdogdelight · 21/11/2022 10:59

Your DC asks Centre Parcs surely? And it's up to them (not you) if they choose to work.

My DC is being paid the normal rate for his Christmas job (retail, not hospitality).

RitaSueandBobtwo · 21/11/2022 12:36

Apologies for confusion. He hasn’t work there since the summer so he doesn’t have a contract.

Also when he works there he gets the bus which adds almost 2 hours each way to his day so for an 8 hour shift in retail he is away 12 hours also we drop him off and collect him from the bus station so its quite tying for us. I am asking on behalf of my DS he hasn’t asked me to (not an organised DD) he will just give his availability then moan about it later if he is an 8am start which means both of us will have to be up before 6am.

If it's a pain to get there then, unless he really liked it, why doesn't he just get a Christmas job somewhere more local?

RitaSueandBobtwo · 21/11/2022 12:50

Trying to get a job for three weeks isn’t that easy.

You said a month in your OP? Doubt CenterParcs will want them for 3 weeks either. Particularly if they are going to be fussy about not wanting to work over the busy period.

RitaSueandBobtwo · 21/11/2022 13:13

Sorry he is home for 2 days short of a month.

Get a local job in bar or restaurant to cover Xmas.

RitaSueandBobtwo · 21/11/2022 14:00

They all want bar restaurant experience
