Interview tips please!

I have a job interview on Wednesday. Its for a role that would be completely different for me (I work in recruitment/hr and this is more along the care route but not actually being a carer)

I'm really nervous! This role is something I really want but I'm so nervous I'll screw up the interview.

Does anyone have any advice for interviews in a healthcare setting?

My previous role was working with high school and college students so I'm pretty clued up on safeguarding. Is there anything else I should be looking into?

Is it NHS? The person specification is usually quite comprehensive, so make sure you have answers that give examples of when you have used each skill.
General advice would be

  • use meditation or whatever works for you to keep calm (so your nerves don't get the better of you)
  • use STAR for giving answers. Situation, Task, Action (that you took) and Result
  • err on the side of saying too much (I never say enough so might just be a personal problem!)

Good luck!
(Ps my advice is theoretical...I'm looking for a job and not been successful yet!)

It's not NHS- it's for a wellbeing (activity) coordinator for a dementia unit.

Thank you!

In that case you might also want to think about how your experience outside work might apply to the role eg raising kids, voluntary work.

I saw this Booklet on the Alzheimer's website. It's about carrying for individuals but I think a lot of the recommendations would be relevant ie build on the interests of the individual, think about the impact of dementia on the individual and any other limiting conditions, time of day of activities etc
