Work stress, menopause and occupational health

Hi, I am going through an occupational health assessment at work (oh is an independent third party) because i had a meltdown or burnout at work due to my workload plus having menopause symptoms which are affecting my sleep and mood. The last year i have had to contend with covering for a fellow manager on maternity leave, a team member leaving and not replaced, gaining a second boss to report to due to promotion and being given part of his portfolio to manage, implementing a new IT system, some other one off projects and to cap it all off a few weeks ago a new team member with no experience whatsoever came on board and needs training and supervision. The OH said i had shown great resilience! She seemed shocked with all i had been expected to deal with and the overtime which i had done for months to keep up ( except i haven't kept up, i still have a massive backlog) and my employers denial of there being a workload problem! I havent had the report yet but in the meeting she said she would make a few recommendations which i know wont go down well, such as doing no overtime and potentially cutting my work days down. I may be classed as having a disability due to menopause and depression but i cant see how employer will deal with this without recruiting which they would say is not a reasonable adjustment. Just reaching out for advice, other people's experiences if been in a similar situation. My current thought is I'll end up burning out again in the next busy season and perhaps should just quit to save myself the inevitable.

This is covered by the Health and Safety at Work Act and an employers duty of care.

The HSE has some useful information and tools www.hse.gov.uk/toolbox/organisation/stress.htm

Your employer will be running a risk if they don’t take on board the OH recommendations. Whilst you have a role in solving this I.e. not saying what has to change, trying to carry on etc. your employer has to adjust your workload.

Don’t quit until you see what’s on offer…you did the best you could with the situation you were dealt and coped as best you could, which was hefty duress, by the sound of it.. just breathe now op and see what happens…

Received the OH report and feeling positive about the recommendations. It recognises both menopause and work load as factors affecting my mental health and advised both need addressing. Step in yhe righy direction, just a shame employer didnt listen to me in the first place!
