Finding a new job whilst on maternity

Hi all,

I am currently on maternity leave which ends July 2023. I don’t enjoy my retail job so I’ve been applying for new jobs within my degree field. I’ve had a few interviews which I have not disclosed I’m on maternity leave in case they base my interview on my circumstances.
if accepted can the job hold the position for me until I finish my maternity?

what would my options be ?

Hi, I've got a new job while on maternity leave. I told them I was on maternity leave and the date I could start from (in line with when my childcare started). They were happy with the date I suggested but really I suppose this can be negotiated... I'm not sure if you have any specific 'rights' to the rest of your maternity leave if that makes sense?

Someone may be along who knows more, otherwise you could try the Pregnant then Screwed helpline? They know so much about maternity and employment rights.

Thank you for your response! Did you tell the employer when you accepted the offer or at the start of the interview application process?

I told them in the interview because it came up but you'd be within your rights to tell them afterwards too if you were worried about discrimination?

I've just been offered a new job to start in Feb. My maternity leave was due to finish in March but I decided that it was worth cutting it slightly short to get this job.

I told them during interview and it hasn't been an issue. Also meant that they were very flexible about hours etc as they knew from the start about my childcare commitments.

Just tell them. A decent employer won't hold it against you and if they do then you shouldn't work for them anyway

That helps a lot, Thank you.
