Redundancy and SMP

Hoping someone can confirm that I am correct. My SIL has been made redundant from her job while pregnant, she was only working one day a week. She was made redundant on 15th September and the baby is due on 17th November. She's been with her employer for 15 years and I think she is still entitled to SMP. Her work haven't said anything to her about it - should they have or is it up to her to contact them?

Thank you for the link - I'd got that information but she's not sure if her work are supposed to do anything or she should contact them.

Did she submit her MatB1 on time?

If she meets the criteria then yes she should get SMP. In a redundancy situation an employer can pay all the SMP in one payment.

She needs to contact her employer to claim SMP. She needs to send them the Maternity Certificate that she got from the midwife showing her expected due date. She also needs to say when she wants the SMP to start. She has to give at least 28 days notice of her preferred start date, so she should get onto this asap.

Yea she qualifies, and should also be paid for everything that she should have received whilst on maternity leave including paid holiday and bank holiday. They should have made these payments to her with her final payments etc.
