Bonus - reclaiming UC

Hi all.

My basic wage is just under £1500 per month, so I receive some Universal Credit.
I am in sales, so I earn commission, which therefore affects the amount of UC I receive per month.

We have had an exceptionally good month, and although I do not know the exact amount I will bring home, I know that it is likely to be over £2500 which means I won’t be eligible for a UC payment in December (possibly January too if my next wage + commission take me above the threshold again).
I know that this level of commission will not last, and when my wage is back to normal, I will need to reclaim as I can’t financially cope without it when I do not receive commission.

My question is, will UC immediately close my claim once I earn over £2500 once? If so, how do I reapply when I need to?
I am worrying about potentially struggling in January or February due to the amount of time it takes claims to be processed. Has anyone been through a similar situation?

Also, does anyone know if the help with childcare stops too? Or if id still be able to report the costs?

Thanks!

No, they won't immediately close your claim. Don't quote me on this but I think you have to receive a nil award for 3, or maybe 6, months. I have had a few £0 months due to partner working overtime and it's always been fine, the next month I get payment as normal. Hope this helps

How can you claim UC if your partner is working? Genuine question because I was not allowed to claim as my partner is working. Sorry op to derail your thread.

Hello, sorry, I should probably have included in there I am a single parent ☺️

Just realised that wasn’t a question for me. Sorry again! This can be tricky on a phone! 🤣

Thank you, that’s handy to know. I’d ideally like to keep my payment date as it is 😊

You'll be fine. I've been on nil award since May and they've not closed my claim.

@Yesnoormaybe I claim UC and me and DH both work full time. It's based on your earnings.

Thank you I should have known that. I applied some time ago and they probably told me that was the reason, but all I remember it was because my partner worked.

We have a joint claim. To be fair it’s not a lot I get - for example my payment this month was only £13. On an average month it’s about £60-80. You definitely can claim jointly if one of you is working. Depending on how much your partner earns.
