What do I do now?

Hi,
I have just turned 50, just finished a history degree (got a first - phew) and have 30 years of office experience in jobs that fit around raising children. BUT ... I have no idea what to do now. I've temped since I finished but the jobs reminded me how much I hate office politics! I was due to start a job last month, which I would have done 30 years ago, but they pulled the job the day before I was supposed to start. Job hunting consists of me looking blankly at Indeed, talking myself out of applying for any job. Can anyone give me a "pull yourself together" talk as I am, for the first time, lost? 😢

Congratulations on your degree! I graduated with a first in English Literature at the age of 47, so I know what it's like scrolling through Indeed for jobs as a mature graduate.

In my final year I started working at my university as a student support worker (students with learning disabilities), and continued this for a few years after graduation. Mostly lovely students and no office politics. If that appeals check out local uni job opportunity pages.

I've always undertaken voluntary work alongside paid employment or education, and in the summer I was approached to apply for a paid position at the place I had been volunteering for 4 years, so I do that now. It's front of house at a heritage site so again no office politics. Perhaps look at the National Trust or English Heritage vacancy pages? Might work well for a lover of history!

Jobs go public, NHS jobs and CS Jobs

Public sector may not be your choice but there are a wide range of jobs on those 3 websites.
