Lawyer looking for advice!

Not long returned to work after maternity leave and I'm starting to consider my options. I'm fortunate, I work largely remotely at the moment and (attempting) to do three days a week, but I'm frequently still at my desk at midnight and it's not quite how i'd like the next decade of my life to look.

So I'm thinking about exploring other options, but I don't really know where to start. Does anyone have any contract law recommendations? Or any success stories of people finding in-house roles? I'm a litigator, which I think automatically narrows the field down somewhat.

Have you tried Government Legal Department www.gov.uk/government/organisations/government-legal-department/about/recruitment or your Local Authority?

I was in a similar position a few years ago (although a different specialism). I would think a litigation background would be transferable and valuable to an in-house role.

Some options I considered were: consultancy roles working for a law firm (lots of firms offer a service to clients where they place consultant lawyers for interim periods, projects etc.), in-house counsel positions, civil service / public sector / regulatory bodies (these might have legal enforcement/investigation roles which would align with litigation experience?), working in-house for a law firm e.g. in their general counsel/Risk teams, Government Legal Service etc.

In my experience, law can often be inflexible and some in-house type roles can also require long hours (although I am sure most offer a better work-life balance overall).

I found it helpful to speak with a few headhunters about my job search (I saw a few jobs on LinkedIn and, whilst they weren't right for me, I contacted the recruiters to discuss the clients they acted for and the types of roles of interest).

Good luck with your search!

Have you come across Keystone? I don't work there but know people that do. They have a consultant model.
