If you were happy where you work would you move companies for £3000 a year more?

Obviously, the extra money is fab but what about the risks of not liking your new colleagues?

No - after tax etc. £3k more doesn't work out that much more in your pay packet every month, but a job you enjoy and nice colleagues isn't guaranteed everywhere. Before you decide I'd do some snooping into the company culture, what the people are like, what your boss will be like x

Check the tax calculator to see your take home pay and decide whether it would be worth it

Absolutely not. Being 'happy' at work is worth its weight in gold.

Not for 3k no

purpleme12 · 04/11/2022 12:59

I'd be too scared I would like it probably

Assuming everything else is similar, no I wouldn’t. But you need to consider the whole package, not just salary - what’s the pension like? Maternity pay (if relevant)? Sick pay? Any bonuses?

Plus then things like how does the commute compare, are the hours fixed or flexible, can you WFH etc (obviously think about the things that are important to you). And as a pp said, find out about the new company culture.

If all those other things are better and the salary is a bit higher then I might move. Depends how much of a difference that £3k is (if you’re only on NMW it’s a big difference, if you’re on £100k not so much!)

Depends on the current salary and what the new job offers in other benefits. For example, I once moved roles for no extra take home pay because the hours were much better (no out of hours work)
