Unprofessional manager

My supervisor and I had a meeting with the team manager as my workload was excessive. My supervisor and I both agreed after the meeting it was a waste of time and that the manager was fobbing me off with excuses. This manager is insistent that I start doing tasks for 2 women at work who are bone idle and are always on their personal mobiles or chatting to people in the office and not working. He is already aware I have a high workload. He won't back down with these women because they are his friends and have haven him a long time. I just keep ignoring the tasks because I feel people are taking me for a mug. The supervisor has told him I am not to do it and he says no. What is a way round this issue because I feel like the only way it would be resolved is to leave.

Start looking for a new job. IME you can't win in these situations. By winning, I mean reduce your workload and get the people not pulling their weight, to buck their ideas up.

If this is your dream job, then - Is your organisation large enough to have an HR dept ? If so there's a couple of options;-

  1. approach HR, give them the same explanation you and your supervisor gave the manager and ask their advice
  2. Raise a formal grievance about your workload - just tell HR that's what you are doing, and that you expect the company's policies to be followed.

In both instances tell them if the situation can't be resolved you will be looking for new employment.

In all honesty I would put the effort you'll need to put in with HR, into finding a new and better job. You can really egg up the 'working under pressure' side of your CV and applications.

Once you have handed in your notice and if your company does exit interviews you could land the manager in the poo, but to be honest, that rarely works

I can’t see that there is a way around this issue. Management have decided to allocate you some tasks and that is their prerogative. I think you have already taken the right steps to rectify your workload but unfortunately it has fallen on deaf ears. My conclusion too, would be that it is time to move on.

I would go to HR, perhaps with your supervisor but frankly you have a rubbish manager and it's rare for HR to be particularly effective so yes, apply for other jobs. Sorry OP, it's so frustrating when you are expected to carry the lazy gits.
