Term time only jobs

I would love to know if there are any term time only jobs outside of the school setting. I am currently a teacher and like my job but the pay is extremely low. I am paid part-time (but work full time) and so feel frustrated about that. I have an MBA and would love a job that is term time only but that allows me to use my business skills and is paid better than my current job. Do such jobs exist or do I just need to accept the status quo until I don’t need the holidays off?

How about something like a school business manager position? I know it's still in a school and they often work extra during the holidays but it cous be worth considering.

You probably need to start full time and then negotiate additional unpaid leave once you are a known quantity and have demonstrated your abilities and commitment. I work term time only in a non-school environment and it's really only the Easter and summer holidays that are a bigger stretch than most people take, especially if your office closes over Christmas like mine does.

Take a normal job and cover hols with leave/DCs Dad leave and holiday clubs?

Why are you working full-time at part time hours? I've just gone back to full-time teaching and am less busy than I was part time because of PPA etc

When my children were school-aged I applied for a job but was very undecided whether or not I wanted that particular job. On the spur of the moment at the end of the interview I simply asked if they would consider me working term-time only. To my surprise they agreed so I decided to go for it. It turned out to be one of the best places I ever worked. If you don’t ask you don’t get!

The civil service takes term time only workers. All jobs (or most) advertised will say part time etc considered, you just need to request it when offered the role. We always say yes when recruitment asks if we will take a term time worker. Largely as the recruitment isn’t speedy so we are happy to take them rather than wait and it’s fine as we have a lot of staff doing term time and works for us too

Do you really need school holidays off? Lots of people use holiday clubs and if you are in an organisation that does hybrid it would be easier for you to work around clubs and other activities in the holidays. It is very unlikely that you will get a consultancy or management job with school hours in the private sector.

Children's centres or any job working with young children or families (family support worker for example) may offer TTO.

This - do what grown-ups do. There is a reason people work in schools - for the flexibility. Or work for yourself and pick your hours. Or tutor.

GiantLegoHead · 29/10/2022 09:24

Civil aervice and some accountancy firms etc have some term time only contracts.

Some of us already have - by the way OP, your MBA is worth bugger all - it doesn't give you business skills, it gives you a degree which is largely only useful in the context of a relevant professional corporate role - which isn't teaching. Which isn't to undervalue teaching at all but the amount of people who think MBAs are a passport to miss a few levels are deluded. Particularly if you want a term time role.

HamSandwichKiller · 29/10/2022 09:56

Consider professional services and request a 90% contact (or similar percentage). You won't get all the holidays off but the majority.
Don't pigeon home yourself to just look at term time only roles - look for flexibility.

HamSandwichKiller · 29/10/2022 09:57

Pigeonhole!

I work term time for a large company, I had worked there full time for quite a few years prior though before I requested flexible working.
