Negotiating shorter notice period

I work a few hours a day for a very small company in admin. pay is very low with no benefits. Expected to be on demand outside of hours. No benefits low hourly rate etc..

i have been offered a new job that is an amazing package and want me to start by a certain date and I am keen to start so I get more money at Christmas as things are very tight.

i have asked my boss if he can waive 11 Working days (2 month notice period) but he is resisting. I can only leave if I find a replacement.. me personally, my sole responsibility, I cannot use a recruitment consultant I can only use free sites like Facebook as he doesn't want to pay. I have had hardly any interest so I am panicking.

i have also offered to continue working for him alongside my new job (also part time) over the 11 said working days. But he said no.

i haven't slept in x3 days and feel very overwhelmed I a have spent my Saturday trying to find candidates.

any advice? Thanks

Speak to ACAS for guidance but I am not sure what they would do if you just left. If you have legal cover on your house insurance they could be worth a try as well.

They may withhold your P45 but usually a chat with the inland revenue sorts that out.

@Newtt thanks for your response. My new job didn't need references from him but asked my employer before that as it was more relevant to my new role.

yes you are right it is a small part time job he hasn't given me a pay rise in two years.. my salary is around same as a cleaner but I am working for a millionaire, he doesn't pay my petrol even though I take his chef who doesn't drive to the shops once a week .. feel like a real mug writing this! 😬

I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to belittle you or your job in any way! The reference to the ‘little part-time job’ was aimed at your employer and the way he is behaving towards you.

It sounds more like you are trying to leave an abusive relationship rather than resign from a job. So even better for you that you only have a few days / weeks to go.

You have a new, step up, better paid job - good for you!!!
You need to detach yourself emotionally from this job / your employer and work your last few days ‘to rule’ if that’s what it takes.

Your’re nearly there. Obviously it’s up to you how you negotiate your way through this transition period, but however you do it, once it is done, block him and don’t look back!
Document what you need to before you leave then do not let him contact you to help the new person settle in… etc etc etc

I hope your meeting with him went / goes well - but either way, don’t over think it. You are leaving!!!

Onwards and upwards - and well done you for making the move!!!!

Enjoy the new job!!!

@Newtt hello I'm sorry I didn't read your last message until now - thank you ❤️

i read your post in the good faith as you intended.

actually you have made a valid point that it sounds like I am leaving an abusive relationship because that's how I feel - due to start new job next week but he is still saying I can't do that. Even though I have fulfilled my conditions set to leave early .. apoarently it's too rushed I need to wait another week.

ive been left to replace myself with no recruitment help. I found someone who can start Monday for a handover.. but apoarebtky that's too soon

cant win

i will kick myself for putting myself through this shit for little financial reward one day'

Think you just need to bite the bullet, tell him you are leaving on x day and he then needs to get a grip and sort out the problem.

Others are right, he is been abusive and a total arse. This will not change anytime soon, just go now.
