Worth giving up 1 day wfh for a bigger salary

I currently work in a nice firm as a secretary but feel invisible some days and that my skills are wasted. Have been offered a job with an increase in salary of £4K a year but no option to wfh. Would I be a fool to turn it down for this reason?

Thanks for your reply I think the uncertainty on flexibility and no wfh option is the deal breaker. Plus unsure if much busier and having to come in on my on working day when other secretary is off are all cons. If the money wasn’t higher I wouldn’t even be considering it. If wfh is important to me and I feel like a hybrid job is what I really want then maybe there’s no point

I’d take it. The commute is not long or costly. The extra money will improve your quality of life. Plus you will enjoy the work more.

And you can always ask to wfh once you have been there 6 months.

Have you met any of the team other than the people that interviewed you? Did you get a good feel about the place? These would be important factors for me to consider as well before jumping ship, especially as the company is nice to work for. You say you feel invisible, but to be honest, most PA/ Sec jobs I worked in are often the same, unless you are secretary to a named person you get on well with.

Wfh is not an option. Plenty of law firms here have it in place so maybe I should wait until I find that firm

Yes I get that and esp in a typing pool you feel that way. I met 2 others and they seemed nice enough. I know a few people who worked there but I can’t get in contact with either of them.

For me it would be a no. I'd never give up the flexibility WFH gives.

lifeis48 · 24/10/2022 12:13

Even if the wfh is only 1 day a week?

Yes, because even 1 x WFH day is more flexibility then you'd get with 0 x WFH (sorry for stating the obvious 😂)

Not allowing WFH I think shows that they're not a flexible work place.

Thanks all. I declined the offer and I also discovered it’s a very busy department and I would need to cover for the other girl when she was off sick or on leave so I’m sticking for now with my laid back (most of the time) job with less money but more flexibility and being at home 1 day!!
