Experiences on working for Local Authority?

So I went through a hellish application process and applied for a job at the Local Authority. I've been shortlisted and have an interview.

I've never worked public sector before!

The role is advertised at full time 37 hours but I'm likely to request 28 or maybe 30 to fit in with school. Or maybe full time with hybrid working.

The council boast flexibility such as term time only, part time, hybrid, WFH etc.

When do I request flexibility?

I was also wondering about pay - I read that there is a £1900ish pay rise? The role has an unusually low salary but the pay rise would bring it back inline with industry standard for the area.

Is it likely that the pay advertised includes the pay rise?

Anyway, any experiences would be great :) I'm a little nervous!

Thanks!

I would ask at the interview what their flexible working / agile working is like. I work for my local LA and some departments can't offer the flexible / agile working due to the customer needs. (Think needing to be at work at 8am and have to finish at 5pm) some departments can offer you flexible/ agile if your role is not customer focused.i.e you can do it evenings, weekends, then they should offer. I wouldn't go in saying you want part time if the role is 37 hours but broach the subject at the any questions but and ask about their arrangements as each department sets their own requirements when it comes to flexible/ agile. Good Luck

Just left an LA role.
My particular role had tons of flexibility, part time, wfh, choice to be TTO. Good sick and maternity pay.
Not all roles get this though.

They're a stable employer I would say.
