What band is senior in the NHS

Just wondering what level people think is senior in the NHS?

Was talking to a friend and their idea of a senior role was rather different to mine. Don't want to shape responses by saying what, but am curious to know what band you think is reasonably senior...

Band 6 middle management (takes charge of shift but not in charge of ward)

Band 7 senior (in charge of ward)

Band 8 more senior (in charge of department)

For me it begins with senior..

Ie.
Senior Charge Nurse. Band 7.

But I suppose I also think of others as senior who don't have the title or who ate bands below me, however on paper and in the boxes in my mind. Band 7 and above.

I'm a band 6 and don't consider myself senior, or close to really. 8a would be senior in my department I'd say.

Band 8a and think senior are the directors/chief etc

Doesn't it depend on what band you are yourself? I'm an 8c, and I work nearly exclusively with those in higher bands than I - so am considered to be junior!!

Depends what profession you are talking about.. in psychological therapist terms Band 7 is newly qualified therapist , band 8a is senior therapist, 8b/c is clinical lead. 8d is borough director. 9 is Trust Chief Operating Officer /CEO .

I suppose a 7 manages our shift day to day, 8 would definitely be senior.

I used to think band 6 was senior but have seen people getting 6 posts quite quickly.
As a Band 7 I had to set up a new team, do all the interviewing and then supervise and manage the team. I thought that was senior. Now an 8a for a different trust and my role is not dissimilar but I am responsible for far more people and deputise for the Head of Service in their absence.
