Nhs manager changed goalposts

I was working part part time in NHS and my manager basically twisted my arm to apply for a full time role with the agreement I could work from home 2 days a week. Since starting only a couple of weeks ago she seems to have gone a bit funny with me. I asked when I could do the two WFH days and she basically said that I could do one day to begin with and that she was being flexible giving me that. I worked from him one day and next week I have booked A/L on the Friday and assumed I could do a WFT day too. When I asked she said that when a person has a day off A/L then the WFH doesn't apply. This was to cover their contingency plan and incase people were off sick etc. Looking on the rotas for the past few weeks and next week this clearly isn't rhe case for everyone. I can see people are WFH and A/L in the same week. I don't know why she is being so awkward. When I emailed to ask previously if I could do WFH soon as I couldnt afford to drive 5 days a week she emailed back " Fuel costs are something we all have to take into account" What!!! I only applied because I could WFH!!! What do I do? Would you arrange a meeting with her? Or talk to someone unofficial above her. It's made me go from loving the job to feeling really anxious about going😒 Also to note she only comes into office 2 days a week!!! Any help much appreciated. I feel like she is taking the piss out of me but don't want to mess myself up. Bearing in mind I really work hard and done so many extra days when staff were off and I was only part time.

Did you get that agreement to WFH in writing or was it verbal only?

No it's was verbal and in front of my colleague. She has mentioned that it can be one day for now with a view to two days in the near future via email but next week no WFH as I have one day off!

NHS Manager here. She is being unreasonable if she is reneging on her side of the deal. Few things to consider:

  • have you got anything in writing about you wfh 2 days a week? An email or noted from a 121? If not you're going to struggle to prove it.
  • what is your trust's policy on wfh? You need to read it
  • are you in a union? If so, take this up with them and ask for support from your workplace rep. If you don't know who that is, go to your trust union rep who can point you in the right direction

I would try and discuss this with her first at your next 121. State calmly that the working pattern doesn't align with what you agreed prior to taking on the post. Ask her when she expects you to be able to work to the pattern you've previously agreed. Take notes.

If she is still unreasonable then contact HR and request an informal resolution meeting to discuss. Take the notes from the 121 where you discussed it.

Essentially you have to collect the evidence and then state your point. Look at your trust policies to be clear on their position.

I have emailed her about it and she has stated that I can do one day WFT going to two shortly as long as the trust WFH policy doesn't change. I will find and read the policy. I am not sure why she has changed her attitude to me. I feel really singled out and can't put my finger on u

If it’s not in writing you may struggle
I would ask for a meeting with her to discuss
Take notes
if that doesn’t resolve it,escalate to HR
