Standing desk

Do you use a standing desk?

If you do, which one do you use? Would you recommend it?

If you use an adjustable height one, what's it like im practice?

Also, what do you wear on your feet all day to support your feet, knees etc?

I'm currently either using a window sil to stand or my sons desk to sit, looking for a long term solution!

If you want to try it, a temporary version (don't laugh) is an ironing board! I used this recently when my back was sore.

I don't use one personally but I order them for colleagues at work - the Ikea electric ones are popular.

I used to use one until I needed to do loads of mouse work. It was an old German drawing desk from the 1950s that can be used as a desk, standing desk and drawing board.

We have the bases from Flexispot with an IKEA bamboo desk top. The bases were £199 each. I already had the top on metal legs but upgraded.

I love the fact that you can save heights so I press one button and it raises or lowers to my preset height for sitting or standing. It’s really sturdy as well and doesn’t wobble.

I usually have bare feet at home so dont wear anything on my feet apart from slippers if it’s cold. I have half a yoga mat that I sometimes stand on - I looked at anti fatigue mats and decided I could make do with what I already had.

The recommendations are to only stand for 20-30 minutes at a time, so I don’t find it a problem. I do feel more motivated to work when I’m standing (it’s easier to procrastinate when you’re sitting down) and I do find moving position frequently during the day helps with my back long term.

I have a Flexispot one which I raise and lower throughout the day as standing for hours is hard going. I've built up to be able to stand for longer lengths of time.

It takes up quite a lot of space on my ikea desk, but only use that extra space for making notes in a pad on calls etc. I have my cables in one of those trays that sit under the desk from ikea and make sure that they're long enough to not cause problems when raising/lowering. Will need to make sure your lighting is flexible too so works for sitting and standing.

I wear slipper boots as my office can get chilly. I've seen rubber mats you can get but don't think I'd bother if it was me paying.

Love the idea of trying the ironing board before you buy one!

I have one form ikea. I was loaned it from work when they closed our office. It’s adjustable and you literally unclip a handle and wind it up and down. I mostly sit at it but it’s a great size and very comfortable! My DP who is much taller than me can adjust the height too which is a bonus

Thanks so much, this is really helpful. The ironing board is inspired! Great idea!

I bought a frame from ALLDREI on Amazon and a worktop from IKEA, which matches the rest of the furniture in the room. Mine is manually adjustable - more effort than electric but only takes a minute. DH didn't want an electric as there is a greater chance of them failing than one that is manual, and we didn't then want the desk to be stuck on one height!

I love using mine. I just wear slippers when I'm standing. I don't stand for longer than 30 mins usually.

Ikea sell a sit stand stool called Lidkullen and I tried it out, but wasn't convinced I would need it.

I have one at work. It's an electric one which raises and lowers. Not sure of the make
