What salary range would you expect for this role?

I’m an Exec Assistant and historically there is the EA role then then EA Manager role. My organisation has created a new middle role with some management responsibilities - things such as coaching, cover but not direct line management. We are in London and a large global firm.

The salary bad for EA is £48-54k.

What then might be the range for the new role and EA Manager roles?

They won’t disclose the salary band for the new role (which is essentially promotion and you can’t apply for the next rung up without having accomplished this level).

I’ve happily applied to be considered because I have other goals for which this is a useful stepping stone and I’m carrying out a lot of the extra stuff anyway, but overall it’s less worth it for a £2k pay rise than it is for an £8k rise. They’ve graded it and said it does come with an uplift.

Well aware I might not get it, but either way it would be good to have some
idea around the salary to inform if I try again etc or try for lateral progression.

it’s professional services, but I would think large legal, banking probably have similar set ups.

Bumping for the evening crowd

I would imagine £54-60k, but that’s a complete guess. M

That makes sense.

Wow that's a lot more than I expected!

Based on this info I would expect you would be looking at £58K-£64K for the Manager role

StColumbofNavron · 08/10/2022 17:39

Well the standard EA role is up to £54k so it stands to reason it would be £54+ but I just couldn’t envisage what the upper limit might be, but £60k makes some sense then the Managers maybe £60-70k.

For the EA manager role or for the middle promotion role?

Perhaps the tile EA, and the responsibilities that come with it are very different in your organisation compared to how the role is defined where I've worked - that's a high salary in my view.

No idea re the next level & perplexed they won't disclose?

StColumbofNavron · 08/10/2022 17:51

It is different to other roles E.g. where you might work with a director or C suite executive or similar. In these organisations the reporting structure is within the EA team, which is standalone then allocated to depts, hence a management structure so
essentially what they are creating is something that is broadly EA - Team
Coordinator (of EAs) - Team
Manager which reports into overall ops.

I’m at the higher end of the EA banding and just trying to work out monetarily how worthwhile the new role is, though as I said I am likely to take it if offered due to other steps I want to take down the line. I’m also trying to work out that if they offer not much more than my current salary where I might (or might not) be able to
negotiate to.

Look on glassdoor salary website. Try a few similar firms.

StColumbofNavron · 08/10/2022 17:56

That was my first port of call, but not much and very focussed on the US offices. Oh well, I guess I will just have to wait and see.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a salary crossover.

I'd expect 52-60 for the middle role and 58-68 ish for the management role.

Please tell me where you work so I can apply when I'm back in the UK :)

StColumbofNavron · 08/10/2022 18:08

@TellMeWhere we are always looking for people and pay a very handsome referral bonus too. I’m very, very lucky to have fallen where I have.

@StColumbofNavron I expect the bands overlap. Bands are usually broad to allow for very inexperienced vs experienced hires.

StColumbofNavron · 08/10/2022 18:53

I think I’ve got a clearer idea and the overlapping definitely makes a lot of sense.

Is 5-8k more a reasonable hope for if I am
successful?

NotRainingToday · 09/10/2022 16:40

Not really what you are asking, but where do you lie in your current band? Promotion would seem more likely if you're already at the top.

There could be a bit of overlap between the bands, so the next one might be something like £52-65k but you wouldn't expect to go in at the top.

I would presume this kind of range too. The EA Manager role won't call for a vastly different skill set to an EA, more likely just experience and some leadership skills. So from what you've said, I can't see how it would be paid more than £60k

StColumbofNavron · 09/10/2022 17:11

I’m at £52k so at the higher end of the EA banding. I was asked directly to apply for this promotion by the leadership team because of a few projects I led that link directly to certain aspects of the extra responsbilities. Obviously I still have to demonstrate I can do the job and deserve it over others so by no means in the bag.

I have some (though minimal) light touch management experience in other roles before this one.

All my previous significant increases have come via moves and promotion isn’t something that’s ever been on offer as an EA, though I have been offered a number of lateral moves in the past, but for various reasons didn’t take them.
