Agile or Princes2?

WoodlandPM · 02/10/2022 16:06

My career in PM is at a standstill and the only way to progress is to get certification in either Agile or Princes2

I am both creative and technical and want to be flexible with what industry I work in. I need options to an abundance of redundancies that I'm currently trying witnessing on LinkedIn

I'd like the flexibility to go freelance if needed...

Which would you all recommend? 😁

Prince2 if you want to work in the public sector
Agile if you want to work in private

That's my non-professional advice 😁

😂 Love it!!

I'm more focused on private sector (I tried public and it didn't suit me at all!)

What do you mean by your career is at a standstill? (trying to understand why you think a methodology will help you move forward)

WoodlandPM · 02/10/2022 16:33

@HundredMilesAnHour Because I work for a software development company in Cornwall and its boring, crap pay and no progression.

Very few roles here that are suitable. If I was certified with Agile or Princes2 then I could relocate or even find a decent remote role and earn a decent amount.

I can't stay on £23,000 forever. I've been in this role for 4 years!

I'm not "stuck" with software industry either. I'm happy to do other things!

I want to be as employable as possible

Agile is a lot more in demand these days.

Itsmemaggie · 02/10/2022 16:40

For software industry I would say agile - a better compliment to your existing experience

sheepdogdelight · 02/10/2022 16:41

Have you previously worked on Agile or waterfall (or something else) projects?

I can't see how getting a qualification in Agile in itself will move your forward unless you actually have some experience of working with Agile project teams.
Unless you want to retrain as a scrum master...?

WoodlandPM · 02/10/2022 16:45

Thanks everyone, sounds like I'd be better off sticking with Agile and actually getting certified. Instead of being just Agile Riff Raff

I'm also doing Azure. For fun 😂

Another vote for agile. Not sure what the other one is but I’ve worked on agile for the last 8-10 years In IT

woff45 · 02/10/2022 17:30

Not sure I agree with the above advice, Agile is increasingly used in the public sector.

EasterIssland · 02/10/2022 18:39

Btw I’ve worked in two project that were for public sector and we used agile

NuNameNuMe · 06/10/2022 20:07

Agile if you want to work in software development projects.

woff45 · 06/10/2022 20:28

Anyone know what Prince 2 Agile is?!

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 06/10/2022 20:57

Agile. I did do Prince2 years ago and in my opinion it was an unrealistic overcomplex pile of bureaucracy. As long as you understand waterfall, I don’t think you specifically need Prince2.

That said, Agile has its moments, lots of jargon for the sake of it! Many companies are moving to Agile now although in reality most are more ‘fragile’ than ‘agile’.
