Hi everyone,
Im not sure if I’m posting this in the right area as it’s to do with work and pregnancy.
Im wondering if anyone knows if fathers are entitled to time of for scans that aren’t the normal 2 scans at 12 & 20 weeks?
Im 18 weeks pregnant and just found out the I have Oligohydramnios (a condition where there isn’t much or any fluid around baby) Meaning I’m now under consultant led care and need to have scans every 2 weeks to check the fluid around baby and closely monitor the situation. It’s a very worrying time for me and my partner and he obviously wants to be able to attend all scans to make sure everything is ok, and of course to be there if anything was to go wrong. The condition means that the pregnancy is now not guaranteed which has left us heartbroken and just waiting for our next scan in hope things have improved. He’s not sure how his work will react and if they’ll let him have the time off. I’ve looked online and can only really see anything about Dads being aloud the time off for the 2 routine scans, so would be really grateful if anyone knows any more info of what happens work wise in situations like this? Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you x

He could always take unpaid or annual leave to go to other scans. He would have to speak to his employer

It will be dependant on his workplace policy if he wants to attend scans above what they'd normally allow. I know my workplace allows two scans, any others are unpaid and at your managers discretion, I've only ever known one person to get to go to additional scans and that was because his wife was very ill. I think if his office doesn't offer additional time, could he take annual leave those days?

Talk to his work, many will allow the time off or will ask you to make the time up during that week. If it's possible get the scan appointments either early or late to cause less disruption

Definitely get him to talk to HR and ask if he can have extra appointments or work extra hours to cover the time off.
