Anyone used a careers coach?

I'm about to return to a FT full-on role in finance after about 10 years in a PT backroom role which I took for work-life balance when my children were small.

I'm coming back in at the same level of seniority I left at, which is pretty good given the role and the industry- there have been lots of changes but I've kept my hand in just enough. However I'm aware that I'm going to be about a decade older than a lot of people at the same level. I have a mental image of myself a bit like the scene in Elf where a grown man is in a classroom of children (I'm aware that that's not actually what it's like 😂 just slightly self-conscious at being older than my colleagues, or less advanced career-wise than my contemporaries, to put it that way).

I wondered whether a careers coach might be useful in helping me navigate this. I'm also very rusty on things like BD and networking. I wondered whether anyone had used a careers coach, what sort of things you discussed and whether it was helpful. I have found a few coaches who are ex-finance which I think will be necessary as obviously different industries work in different ways.

Thanks.

Yes, in slightly similar circumstances.

The coach I had was from my industry originally, and his ‘main job’ was consulting to them. That made me reassured that he was talking up to date common sense.

His main benefit was giving me a confidence boost to get a promotion - it sounds like you’ve already done that! But there was general tips/ sense/ ideas/ pushes for me to think that I found immensely helpful.

Yes. Invaluable. Quite expensive but resulted in me seeing my skills in a different light, being able to verbalise what I wanted to do next and increasing my salary by £10k.
