Irritating Coworker

Just that really. I've been part of a new team for 12 months and get along with everyone great barring one male manager.

He's been there years, lives in the bosses pocket. He was fine at first then started with sarcastic comments when I speak to others, whispers then laughing when I've left the room which of course makes me feel a little paranoid.

It's like everyone around him is thick and he thinks he runs the show even though he couldn't tell his head from his arse. Regardless of what I think of him as a person, as a manager he really is shockingly useless. If he's in a huff he has a face on, he brings his bad moods to work, is nasty to others etc.

He seems to target younger colleagues and the way he speaks to people is shocking. I'm older with children and only work PT. (He's two years younger than me). When I'm in I do my very best and I'm good at my job.

We've had words before with me telling him if he's got a problem talk to me direct, said he didn't.

I'm very good at ignoring and just getting on but he started with comments yesterday and I went quiet because I honestly felt if I spoke I would end up ripping into him and I've managed not to for so long. I don't want to lose my job as barring this irritating sod I actually enjoy it.

I know if I were a man he wouldn't dare speak to me as he does as he's a complete weasel.

What would you do? I dread working with him as I just can't stand him.

Does every work place have a token tw*t?!

Hmm

Yes. But he sounds like a misogynistic bully.

Report his behaviour to HR.

I have one of these!! Watching with interest OP, good luck, he sounds like a prize prick

I'm watching with interest too.
I once worked on a team where there was a female supervisor and a male team lead. The female thought she was the most intelligent being to grace the planet and had high notions of being promoted several levels to senior mgt. She was already out of her depth were she was working and only had that role because of who her father was in the wider business. She had the personality of a wet fish and frequently spoke sharply to people declaring to all who would listen that she was not there to 'make friends'. She really was insufferable and eight years later is still in exactly the same position she was in when I left. Her team lead was utterly incompetent and followed her lead in how he spoke to people. In the end the team dissolved and he was left without anyone to lead.

It baffles me how these people interview for people management roles when they are clearly unlikeable and unsuitable for the roles.
