Should I stay or try to go?

I got promoted to a full time management role in March and am now at the bottom of a new pay band. The job is ok and pretty secure. The hours can be difficult over a rotating rota, including a mix of weekends and 8pm finishes. This means a lot of planning with partner and grandparents each week to arrange childcare/nursery pick ups for my 2 year old but we just about make it work (can be hard sometimes when my partner and I only have one car between us). I am guaranteed to have a pay rise next year which will keep rising as this is how our pay structure works.

A new administrative role has come up elsewhere in a different department of the same institution. It is full time monday-friday 9-5 with some opportunities to work from home. It would make life a lot easier but id be capped at my current rate of pay potentially with little room for progression.

I'm very unsure what to do! Just wondered what you'd do in this position?

I think in this scenario you'd need to consider what also works for the DGPs. If they are happy providing ad hoc childcare at short notice, then less of an issue, but if not or you sense it may become more of a burden for them as they get older, then something to take into consideration.

I wouldn't change jobs to something with limited progression. Childcare will only get easier as they get older.
