Dated application forms & low salary - red flag?

Was just wondering if anyone feels that a dated 14 page job application form is a red flag?

To me it shows lack of progression, lack of funding and lack of modernisation.

To me it shows that the HR department are dated and fuddy duddy. With old fashioned techniques, rules and processes.

The file itself is saved as ApplicationForm2002.

I really want to apply, but I'm worried. My last work place was very old fashioned and believed women do HR and admin. While the men bring in the money. And I left due to lack of progression, sexism and bullying. So I'm on high alert (and possibly over sensitive!)

I live in Cornwall and there isn't much progression here as it is. This is a rare part time job. Still awful pay (£19,000 pro rata) for a marketing manager role but it's part time & suits me perfectly.

I'm hoping you'll say I'm being silly and to go for it 🤞

DH says red flags galore and pay is pittance but its Cornwall and that's what it's like here.

I'd say red flags also. However if you're interested then you may as well apply, and the application process may either ease your mind or make it clear they're not right for you! And it gives you more thinking time too - you don't have to accept the job after all! X

Thank you @Lunabun, such sensible advice. You're right - I don't have to accept it if I was offered it x

Application form is just there to get you to interview.

Maybe they are more interested in doing stuff that is useful.

At least they are long established.

Don't rule the job out yet. Wait till they offer you something

OP not sure what industry you are in but that is a low salary even for cornwall. I run a team delivering some non-clinical nhs services, lots of wfh, flexible hours and national banded pay. Have you searched the nhs website? Have a look for the whole of south west because many non-clinical options allow work from home now

@Potatomashed Oh this sounds very interesting! Just last week I contemplated side stepping into the NHS! Thank you! I'll have a look

Finding good reliable, flexible and well paid work here is so difficult.

I'd love to hear from HR managers why so many organisations still insist on application forms - like you I find it baffling. It also seems to be indicative of old fashioned outmoded thinking. Or is it just that they don't know how to read a CV.
Good luck with your job search.

MomJeansBumJeans · 18/09/2022 16:30

@oldestmumaintheworld they'll say it's something about not having enough time, scoring candidates fairly and equality. (Only those who don't own a Microsoft Word license or a printer can't fill it out - so not very equal for poorer applicants)

It's all very yawn. I've decided I can't be arsed to apply for a role with such a shit salary.

I have juat read a post on LinkedIn about this. Saying "One day all the old fashioned HR paper pushers will be retired - will that mean application forms will be a thing of the past?"

Thanks all :)
