Pre-employment credit check - can they see debt?

I've been offered a role and have a credit back as part of their general background checks. The role isn't in finance. I have about £9k of debt (1 loan and 1 CC), but no adverse events, no missed payments, etc. Is this likely to be an issue? Can they even see the actual debt balance?

That should say credit check, not back!

When I worked in a bank, yes they could (HR, not my manager or anything).

Unsustainable amounts of debt makes you vulnerable to getting involved in fraud etc if you’re desperate to pay it off.

But if you have a healthy income then I doubt the level you’re talking about would be an issue.

They will be able to see, but unless you a very low paid I can't see it being an issue.

I imagine they wouldn't care about loan and CC if you are paying these off.
They would probably only care for CCJ's and just any red flags with a credit score.

Thanks all. Is it worth disclosing beforehand to the internal recruiter?

Loads of people have loans - cars, new kitchens, you name it. Shouldn't be an issue at all. They are looking for things like CCJ's and defaults, or if you have ever been declared bankrupt, that sort of thing.

It really isn't an issue, don't think of it as some kind of problem. If you are worried you can ask the recruiter and will be told it is not an issue. But don't think of it in terms of a disclosure, because it is not a bad thing.
