How to tell new job I'm pregnant whilst on probation?

Looking for some advice to break the news I'm pregnant to my new job.

When I interviewed for the job I wasn't pregnant, but the process was loooong, took about 6-7 months for the 3 separate interviews, with big gaps between interviews, during this time I did my second round of IVF and became pregnant.

We have lost two naturally conceived pregnancies and then did two rounds of IVF and given the %5 chance we were given it is a very lovely surprise that at 22 weeks we are still pregnant.

To not drip feed, I had to start my job a month later than planned, as I put my back out. I've now started my job, and I'm doing a very good job (from feedback of other staff), but I'm aware I look a liability as I'm limping around on crutches with a hunch back (finally getting treatment that should end the back issue in late Sept) and worried about whether they just won't keep me on past probation once they hear about my pregnancy.

How to I break it to my line manager.

Positives:

  • I won't be taking much maternity leave (and they won't have to pay for it)
  • I will be there during the lead up to Christmas, their busiest time

The job is well paid (rare for an artist) and with a very prestigious brand and I really really don't want to lose it with our miracle baby hopefully making it earth side after Christmas.

Hoping to tell them today or tomorrow...... thanks in advance 👪

Congratulations! I'd tell your line manager, let them know you're happy to be working there, are committed to the company and see yourself there long term. If they don't keep you on because you're pregnant they're awful.

If they don’t keep you on because you’re pregnant, they’re not just awful, they’re acting unlawfully. Has the very good feedback been recorded formally or in writing anywhere? That will make it harder for them to justify letting you go for performance issues.

@YellowBeetle thank you for your kind congratulations, we are both thrilled and starting to quietly dare to hope this baby might get to come home with us!

Good advice I’ll certainly bring up the points you mentioned when I discuss this with her in the next day or so. 😊

@AtillatheHun I haven’t had my work formally praised, but have WhatsApp messages from staff on my work phone , saying my work is of a high standard, I might start screen grabbing these
and put in a folder. Good point 👍🏼 😊

Tell them in writing not verbally so if they do try to get rid of you you have proof they knew you were pregnant.
