Second career

Hi all,

I have just been relocated to the UK from another country. My primary degree and post-grad degree (some years ago!) is psychology but I didn't practice it.

Am thinking of retraining for a second career in UK. The direction I am looking into is (a) counselling; (b) occupational therapy; or (c) psychotherapy. Would like to take up relevant PT work alongside the retrainining. Personally the three directions are equally interesting to me. I don't mind heavy workload.

Which direction, in your view, would be easier to get a place for retraining? Which one would have a better prospct? Which one is more rewarding (in your view)? How may I start to look for course / related PT work? Any other advices?

I am mid-forties BTW.

Thanks for reading this, and thanks in advance for your advice!

My Counselling course was four years part time to reach Diploma L4 ..I now have my own private practice which keeps me busy alongside a part-time wellbeing role.

You could study Counselling Psychology full time for three years to gain a Doctorate…? Will open doors within the NHS…?
