Civil Service Job Types

Hello. I am hoping to get back into work around Feb/March time next year and looking at the civil service mostly for the pension and flexibility.

I am open to any job type but finding it quite confusing knowing which roles/departments might be suitable for me. My background is account management and since having children I have been supporting my husband with launching a digital agency so I’ve done everything from hiring, HR, all the finances and margins etc to ordering stationary. In an ideal world, I’d work 3 days a week school hours (all heat round) but appreciate I’m unlikely to get the school hours part. I don’t need to earn a fortune but I want to get my foot in the door so I can begin to build up a career for when my children are older. I have 3 children from 6 months to 5 years but my husband can be flexible and do all drop offs/a couple of pick ups.

I’m also open to any other suggestions of jobs/careers! Feeling a bit overwhelmed and not sure what to do! I don’t have any particularly strong likes or dislikes so very open!

I would start by looking at which departments have offices within reasonable commuting distance. If you want to work about ?15 hrs? I would also look at applying as a jobshare.

Regarding flexibility, that will entirely depend on the particular role and the management - don't assume that you can have any working pattern you want just because is its a civil service role. Not all depts are offering home working contracts although most (all?) have some kind of hybrid offer now.

It sounds like you have a wealth of skills and experience that will make you successful in a variety of CS roles!

Thanks @Doorhandleghost for your reply. There’s quite a few offices within driving distance (nearest city is Peterborough) so in theory lots of options. I think I could manage up to 25 hours a week and my husband works for himself so can be flexible for pick ups etc so hopefully that would mean a few different roles could suit.

I think probably the main problem is confidence and knowing where to start! Thank you for your support.
