Agencies for coders?

Young relative is looking for a new coding job. Two successful years coding in a large start up. Which agencies would be good to discuss options with?

Anyone? I'm convinced that the answer to every query is within the mumsnet sphere of knowledge, don't prove me wrong on this one!

I look for jobs on Indeed, and there are various agencies. They seem framework dependent. I am .Net (Microsoft) focussed, so I could name some of those. Also they tend to have a geographic spread, although less so lately as there's even more remote positions. I am North West.

Does that help?

BishyBarnyBee · 04/09/2022 17:20

I knew someone would be able to help! They are NW too, but also interested in London. Would they be able to find the agencies on Indeed if they entered their framework? They are very early career and just asked us if we had any ideas where to start but we are well out of touch with that job market.

Thanks so much.

I reckon that's a plan. There are a few Manchester/Leeds/Liverpool agencies which will turn up once he puts his framework and area in., likewise many more if he specifies London. They're quite easy to spot by the names usually, but if he's not sure he can google them and soon find out.

Some places actively distrust agencies though, and won't take referrals from them, so if there are any particular workplaces/firms he's keen on he should check those individually for sure.

Kleptronic · 04/09/2022 17:30

Ah sorry, they not he.

YellowPlumbob · 04/09/2022 17:31

LinkedIn is where all my coder friends found their jobs.

Kleptronic · 04/09/2022 17:31

FWIW I am a she :)

Kleptronic · 04/09/2022 17:32

In my sphere none of them are on LinkedIn but it's a broad church so it depends on their specialism.

Try Capgemini (although I think they recruit via agencies) and look at Cortex IT recruitment. Great small agency, most roles are in SE but some nationwide.

Kleptronic · 04/09/2022 17:38

LinkedIn's a bit FaceBook and probably so is Indeed to be fair. There used to be jobs on StackOverflow but they've jibbed that now.

Do they collaborate on any projects on GitHub (for example, other collaborative platforms are available)? Although you need to be careful about working for free, it can be a good way to make contacts. Likewise there are tech communities on twitter, insta, youtube etc. etc. which might be worth looking at.

Caveat: I am old and team lead now so I am probably completely out of touch, but I try to keep my eye in for my junior team members.

Addecco / Hays / LA international / Spring

were some I engaged with a few years ago when doing IT recruitment.

for direct hire to IT look at the likes of the below for good early career programs.

IBM / Microsoft / Amazon / Oracle / SAP

try also the large banks like JP Morgan etc if looking in London.

Glittertwins · 04/09/2022 18:09

Indeed, Hays are two agencies and applying direct to companies such as Infosys, Tech Mahindra, CapGemini, CGI, who provide developers to companies such as M&S.
