Please??

First section "about you" I have several tick box options to answer - it's for a Customer Service Assistant (help desk, cashier work, stacking shelves etc etc etc).

For each one I have to tick "strong preference", "no preference" or "Definitely not".........now I need to make sure I tick the right boxes to suit the role - and to make them look twice at my application form.

The questions are

Working directly with customers
Working behind the scenes
Working in an office environment
Work that is repetitive
Work which is varied
Working in a team
Working alone/unsupervised
Problem solving

So for each of the above which box should I tick??

Thanks

Can anyone help???

Well, most of the list above seems to be geared towards a customer service role so I would tick 'strong preference' to nearly all of them! The only one I would tick 'no prefernce' to would be 'work that is repetitive'....hope this helps! I would not put 'definately not' to any of them tbh...x

sorry x posts with you.

So working in an office would be strong preference??

I'm so confused

Oops sorry! Did not see the 'office environment' bit! Would put 'no preference to that'!!

Basically you want to appear flexible and able to take anything on iyswim. Putting 'definately not' seems negative IMO.

But the list is pretty csutomer focused so things like working in a team, with customers, varied and unsupervised is a must!! Other things are things you may have to do. For example you may have to work on your own to cover lunches, sickness etc so you want to show that you are ok with this.

Sorry if this is not much help. You may be better posting it under 'employment' Flowerey is an HR expert and she would be able to tell you what employers are looking for wrt application forms.

Have you got the job description FAQ? That should be your starting point for working out which of those things are important for this particular job.

But just going from what you've said I would say that helpdesk stuff would involve problem solving, varied work, working directly with customers, shelf stacking would be repetitive, working on your own probably, possibly in a team as well, and cashier would be problem solving, customers, on your own, repetitive work.

This sounds like a standard application form they use for all their jobs so don't worry about office stuff appearing. I would tick strong preference for those things I have said, and no preference for anything else.

But looking at the information you have about your job should always be your starting point and is the best clue. For any blank bit you hvae in the form to complete about why you think you would be good for the job, look at the section of the job description which describes what experience and skills you need, and make sure you give a sentence or two which shows them you have each requirement.

Thanks flowery - job description was pretty vague - basically just said what the pay was, and what duties would be involved (shelf stacking, cashier work, customer service desk) - not very helpful at all really!

No skills or experience mentioned at all on it!

What sort of things are they looking for when they ask "why do you want to work for Wilkinsons" - only have 3 short lines.

Also "what would I say your three key strengths are" - only 1 short line for each of those (I don't have any key strength that I can think of........)

DOn't say 'because I want a job'

Why you want to work for Wilkinsons, say something like you feel your skills and experience mean you have a lot to offer the team at Wilkinsons.

Have a look at their corporate values here, and about their staff here, should give you an idea of the kind of person that they like, the kind of values they aim for, say something that will fit in with them.

You thrive on providing helpful and friendly service, that kind of thing?

LOL - don't worry I may not be a particularly bright spark - but have enough brains to know that "Because I want a job" isn't a good answer to give

Thanks for those links - I'm sure I can make something up find something from them
