Interview help

I interviewed for a place over two weeks ago and they got back to me with that I didn't have the skills of the role but offered me a different role. More junior.

this is the feedback and I'm trying to work out how to prepare and get the job as I really want the job so what kind of question do you think might come up.

it's senior public affairs and policy coordinator.

this was the feedback from the recruiter about the interview tomorrow.

'There will not be any test, or set of competency based interview questions for this stage of the interview process. They are keen to ensure that you have a deeper understanding of the demands of the role, and for to get to know each other better. They are keen to get a sense of what your development and support needs would be early on in the role as well as addressing questions that you may have around the role and organisation.'

what questions would you prepare?

So you didn’t get the job you went for but they offered you a junior role yet they still want to talk to you to make sure you know this junior role like the back of your hand? If there are skills gaps what then they don’t offer you this job?

If they’re happy you can do this junior role then what a formal interview? Tests?

So it seems they like you as a person but didn’t feel you had the skill set for the main job (or had someone else already lined up).

I think you need to fully prepare yourself for the job - what it entails, how you can apply yourself to the role, etc. Prove you’re capable for this job. Think what skill sets you may be missing for the main role (leadership? Presentation experience? Etc) and think what training or experience you need to develop these skills. Eg shadowing other people? Assisting them etc.

Questions you could ask? - Career progression? Opportunities to develop the role? Etc

Then I'll stay in my current job.

I went for head of department I'm currently working at the level they've offered the role for.
