advice on the best way to ask for a raise

i am really badly paid for one job i do, which is just for one hour and a half a week.

i have only just been given my payslips for the last three months (don't ask!) and realise i'm getting a really poor deal.

is there a sure fire way in which i can almost double what i'm being paid for this hour? it isn't worth doing if i continue with this rate.

sea there is no surefire way of doubling your salary, no. I am sure you know that!

IN terms of asking for an increase, make an appointment with your boss, take along supporting information about how well you are performing, any areas where you believe you are exceeding what is required, any evidence that the average rate of pay for your job elsewhere is higher, anything to help your cause (difficult to be more specific without knowing what you do or more about salary structure where you work).

Explain that you feel you deserve an increase in your pay because (for example) it's been x time since your pay was last reviewed, in that time you have achieved x, y and z, you feel you add significant value to the organisation in terms of x,y and z, you bring in x amount of income, or whatever.

You may be asked what you consider a reasonable amount, so have something in mind, something you can back up rather than being plucked out of the air. Your boss may want to think about it. Set a date for a further meeting if that is the case. Your boss may say no, in which case ask if there is anything you can be doing in the next 6 months to demonstrate that you deserve this increase, set objectives together.

Hope that helps.

thanks flowery, i run a soft play type thing. i've just realised i'm only being paid £11 for this and realistically it isn't worth doing for that amount. i basically supervise it but am in charge of health and safety all aspects really of running a group. i'm also half way through an nvq3 so hopefully this will help my cause.

i'm angry with myself that i hadn't noticed sooner but the group is growing quickly so have some ammunition there.

Yep, definitely any training will help, growing size you are responsible for, and if you can do some research into what others are paid that would be good as well.
