Asking for extra hours before applying

I know it seems a bit cheeky and if there were extra hours available then they would advertise the job including the extra hours but I've nothing to lose by asking!

In summary, a job has been advertised, it would be perfect for me, I would be perfect for it. (It is in a grammar school in case that's relevant). Part time position but I literally want an extra couple of hours/1k a year for it to be properly perfect. This would still be a slight paycut for me but I would happily take the cut to accept this position.

I am planning to email asking if this extra would be a possibility rather than just applying and wasting their/my time.

Any tips how best to word it? I'm not pinning lots of hope on them saying yes but would hate to not ask and sit there mulling it over for the foreseeable

Do not email, phone the recruiting manager/contact on the advert and ask them if there is flexibility.

Normally you advertise for exactly what you want/have the budget for but there may be flexibility or a hard no.

Phoning is much better in this situation, both you and they can ask supplementary questions to make sure you each understand the others position.
