Practice, practice, practice!

During the interview, if you need a bit of thinking time before giving an answer, take a sip from the glass of water.

It helps to remember that most panel members are as nervous as you feel, and most want people to do well in the interview.

Good luck!

Thank you @Welshrarebitontoast im planning on taking notes with me, writing lots of examples down and lots on the company as i know my mind will go blank!

Oh that's exciting. Definitely research the company, take a look at their website, LinkedIn, look up the people interviewing you. Prepare some questions about the company, ask about their vision for the role - what do they want to see happen over the next 5 years? Be ready with STAR examples, think about their job spec and prepare your examples based on those expectations.

Good luck! You obviously know your stuff, and they wouldn't invite you to interview if they didn't want to learn more about you.

Welshrarebitontoast · 19/08/2022 13:00

@Bunglemom I’m sure you’ll do great! Just remember to tell yourself that you have got lots to offer them, and they’ve recognised that by asking you to attend the interview.

Please give us an update after Tuesday.

NellieJean · 19/08/2022 13:02

Work out some answers in advance for the obvious questions.
Strengths and weaknesses.
What you can bring to the role.
Personal development/ training needs if you get the job.
An example of when you have had to make a difficult decision.
How would your current work colleagues describe you in three words.
Have two questions ready for when they ask if you have anything to ask them.
Have a good look at their website for back ground information you might be able to drop in at a suitable point “I believe you are opening a new factory in Newcastle”
Finally good people are hard to find. Remember when you walk into the room they will be wanting you to do well.
Good luck.

I bring a pad and paper with me to interviews as I tend to not focus on anything that's not written.

So I research the company, look at the job spec and then write down any questions I have, before the interview.
When people start speaking, especially if it's a panel, I wander off lol, so I need that pen and paper to focus. I write down key words. I circle things.
Enthusiasm for the job is a massive asset. Use it. Why do you want it? Write it down. Why do you want that job with that company?

Bunglemom · 19/08/2022 13:06

ah thanks everyone, some fab ideas and tips!

I will update after Tuesday... keep those fingers crossed!

It's okay to be a bit nervous. Interviewers expect most people to be a bit nervous! Remember you're also interviewing them to see if the job is a good fit for you - it's a mutual investigation of how well you/the company will work together.

Be sure to do research, ask a couple of questions, take your time to answer, it's okay to breathe and think before responding.

Afterwards, follow up to say thanks and something positive about how much you want the role (if you want it).

Dalint · 19/08/2022 13:26

I was going for one job and I had organised my handbag with my spiral notepad and with my pen clicked onto the spirals. I get into the interview and I found the notepad easily (it was A4 and pink), however the pen had fallen off its spiral position and I spent about 30 seconds under the table rooting for my pen in my handbag before I popped up like a meerkat again and the most elderly man on the panel just smiled a kind smile at me (I think the other two thought I was Mary Poppins and about to get sucked into my very large handbag). I suspect he was trying not to laugh.

I actually got that job.

There are things that come across in interviews and one is actually wanting that job, with that company. You need to figure out why you want that job with that company so that you can focus your answers.

Do you know why you want this job?

Why are you better than anyone else they've looked at?

GorgeousGoldies · 19/08/2022 14:24

It popped up on LinkedIn the other day that the questions people often forget to prepare for are “why do you want the job?” and “what can you bring to the role?”

Good luck for Tuesday!

NellieJean · 24/08/2022 11:33

Really pleased for you. Don’t worry about resigning I’m sure they will be sad to lose you but hopefully will recognise it’s a good move for you.

Dalint · 24/08/2022 11:35

You must have performed brilliantly as they offered you the job so quickly. Well done! Nerves are useful sometimes.

Did they ask any disarming questions or was it the more mundane interview style?

I prefer less structured interviews as I find the typical questions difficult to answer.

Bunglemom · 24/08/2022 12:07

@dalint it was competency based questions so the usual, nothing really unusual.. im just glad i did my research first into the company so i could reel off facts to them.

just waiting now for my letter of offer of employment and my resignation is written ready to go.

They're often the hardest interviews for me, so well done!

They love if you genuinely are enthused by the role and the company, so you did well.
I hope your new job brings you lots of good times.

Celebrate lady! Congratulations again.

Bunglemom · 24/08/2022 12:50

@Dalint
