Job advertised is a promotion from existing post. Yes I know I could do this job. Yes it will mean a pay rise. More responsibiliy which i wouldn't mind.
BUT - not in the specific area I want to work in. Not sure i like the other person i'd be working with much.
should I? if onl;y for the interview practice? or if i were to get it could i then sidestep into area i want to be in?
Not sure if any of that makes sense - someone tell me to stop procrastinating and get on with it.

You've made a start on listing the pros and cons. Any more? I find making a full list of +s and -s is helpful. You also need to think about what you want out of your job and how it impacts the rest of your life. Then look at the significance of each pro/con. So, if more responsibility and money is key to your happiness right now, these might outweigh the niggles. But if that means working extra hours, and being at home less doesn't appeal to you, that might make you think about it differently. You mention not being sure you like the other person you'd be owrking with - do you know them well? Or is it just a gut feel? ANything you can do to try to get to know them better before you have to make a decision? Meantime, if you are looking for another job anyway, apply and use it for interview practise as you say, whilst continuing to work on whether it's what you want or not.
