What can I do with an AAT level 3

Hello
I'm a 42 year old single mum, when my Son started reception (6 years ago!) I did the AAT level 2, I LOVED college, earned a distinction overall in that level and after college finished, I started the level 3 via distance learning.
Now in all of that time I have only completed the Bookkeeping and Management Accounting units, the rest is outstanding I was side tracked with issues that did need my attention, but it's completely my fault that I never got back on track.
One of the demotivating things is that I have been working in the accounts department of my company so maybe I don't feel like I would gain anything after qualifying (small business, no where to go there), my confidence is pretty low sometimes and when I feel safe somewhere I'm scared to move on.

AAT sent me a general send out today to remind me that I have until September 2023 to finish my course (AQ2016) before they change it for the next one. I would now have to pay for my exams because I think what I had with Kaplan would have expired by now but I have all of the course materials.
It's not cheap to re register and book exams, does anyone have any idea if I would benefit from this/ where I could go with it?
Thanks for reading. x

My team tend to do AAT for two reasons. One to boost their knowledge to help with their day to day role and another as a different route to completing their professional accountancy qualification (normally CIMA or ACCA).

What type of role do you do at the moment? Do you need the qualifications to progress further and if so do you want to progress.

Right now banking, VAT returns (in Xero), invoicing and chasing overdue payments.
The accountant runs the payroll, I just make the payments. It feels very minor, I don't know what I want to do. I value security but I think I can do more.

If you're looking for a long-term career in this field with better a higher salary to match then it's definitely worth investing in finishing your AAT Level 3, and then progressing to Level 4.

You'll also find that some companies will fund it for you. Maybe start looking for other similar jobs out there, as some will offer you that study support. And it also means you may end up at a company where there is much bigger scope for progressing and developing, which you're clearly not going to get at your current place.

You only make progress by changing jobs. Finance staff are often too loyal.. it's the kind of people we are!

Make a plan to finish the next level followed by a plan to move to a job with more responsibility.

I teach AAT(not for Kaplan), and some of the units from AQ2016 can be transferred to AQ22. I would speak to Kaplan and find out exactly what's involved and any related fees, if you've paid for the course with them, did it include exams fees? You would need to renew you AAT membership regardless.

Have you only completed those units and then suspended your studies with them? It depends on the learning agreement with Kaplan as to how it would work.
