Return to work after 10 years worried and scared

I left work in 2012 for maternity leave.
In 2014 became a full time carer for an elderly relative, sadly they died last month.
I have to now return to work but so scared and worried.
I don’t even know what to do! I need a job between 9-2.30 so I can pick my daughter from school as live quite far from the school.
I always worked in retail.
I used to work in retail as sale assistant for a well know clothing brand in London for 10 years and I remember I had excellent reputation as hard working and reliable.
We moved away from London so I can not go back there.
I have no other qualifications.
I am totally useless with computers, programs like excel etc so I can’t do any office jobs, also I’m not native English so my written English is not very professional.
Its so scary, also it gives me a huge anxiety to start as new, also I’m 48, I always think I am no great etc..
I just looked on Jobs online locally and in regards of my old CV there will be 10 yrs gap, not sure what to put there as it will be look ridiculous to my future employer.

Any local shops need anyone?
Post office
Newsagents
Supermarkets
Petrol garage
Home bargains/b&m

The above I know can do afew hours a day

You simply just put
2012 mat leave
2014 - 2022 carer
(Someone will be along with better words) but as long as you state it.

After 8 yrs as SAHM I started back in work as supply dinner lady. You'll find something, just get looking.

How about a carer?

SuePerdupa · 15/08/2022 08:41

Would you like to work caring for people? You have some great life skills that are transferable.
Just put on your CV what you have been doing for 10 years

We're all human and sometimes we have to take time off from work to take care of our loved ones. Be honest and I am sure every employer will understand.
You can do it :) Best of luck to you.

Agree completely with this - you have developed some great skills while being a carer. You can easily get a job as a carer elsewhere now - you just need to give yourself some confidence in yourself!
