Advice for leg cramps after work?

EllieRosesMammy · 14/08/2022 18:40

So i'm a chef and I work long shifts on my feet in a very fast paced restaurant (so lots of actual running around). I'm also 20 weeks pregnant with my 3rd (beyond exhausted) and suffering horribly with extreme leg cramps after work. I already wear orthopedic shoes to help with heel issues but after each shift lately my legs will cramp up beyond belief, usually in the middle of the night which wakes me up as its very painful :(

Any advice on what I can do to help this?

Slowing down at work isn't an option, neither is reducing my hours. I do massage and baths after shifts, and take paracetomal, but nothing seems to help :(

Compression socks? Ive not tried them but several nurses I know who spend 12 hours on their feet swear by them!

Lay on your bed or somewhere where you can put your legs absolutely upright for about 10minutes and you should get some relief. Works for restless legs as well.

Make sure you're eating plenty of potassium and zinc

Not zinc sorry, magnesium

Either take magnesium glycinate to up your body levels or use a magnesium oil spray on your cramping muscles (instant relief).

Can you eat a banana after a shift? They are naturally high in potassium and magnesium, both of which should help
