E commerce, weite product descriptions.

Re train as a translator and translate leaflets ect or become a tour guide, depending where you are.

Translator? At work we regularly use companies that provide translators. We usually use their services over the phone, so they translate conversations between the client and ourselves. Sometimes they attend in person but the availability for this isn't good. Paid by the hour.

Shold say write!!

DSis, speaks French and Italian virtually fluently, but has no qualifications beyond A level. She has worked (in France, Monaco and London), as a bilingual secretary and copy writer. She got her jobs through word of mouth, starting as an admin assistant.

If you have the right to work in the UK then please consider training as a French teacher as the profession is crying out for skilled teachers. You can do on the job training so a degree isn't always necessary. You can usually find work in a free school/academy without a teaching qualification too. Or offer yourself to local secondary schools as a Foreign Language Assistant (FLA)

LionessesRules · 08/08/2022 18:04

How fluent are you?
My old work had a European sales team, all sat in the UK. Many had 2 or 3 languages, but some were bilingual.

What qualifications DO you have? English? Maths?

Gong1 · 08/08/2022 18:12

You may not have qualifications but what experience do you have? You say you need to get back to work so I am assuming you have worked before and have developed some skills you could build upon.

Beurredescargot · 08/08/2022 19:05

I’m French and I have been living in Uk for 25 years, I’m 45 and I am currently working as a nanny before that I worked in retail operation (purchasing). I have the settled status. Thank you for all your suggestions ! I’m looking at everything

In response to previous suggestions of translation- please note that translators are usually qualified, most commonly at masters level. It is not something you can just step into as a native speaker, without relevant qualifications and experience...

Gong1 · 08/08/2022 21:14

As you are London based try contacting Euro London Appointments. They are a recruitment agency specialising in multilingual positions. They used to have a lot of PA, secretarial and admin work.

If you dont want to go back to that maybe look at what kind of work is available in airports and hotels. I imagine in thode environments being able to speak French would give you an advantage over the monolingual applicants.

PinkBuffalo · 08/08/2022 21:22

My brother worked for a French company in the uk that imported cars they needed french speakers to liaise with the company based in France it could be another option
